An original WW2 named cased Legion of Merit Legionnaire medal. The medal comes in its original case of issue (which has some wear to it) together with its ribbon bar. The medal comes with a slot brooch, indicating production during World War Two. The medal is hand engraved with "Herman C. Kliber".

 

Colonel Kliber was born in Belle Mead, NJ on Nov. 8, 1887. Kliber enlisted in the army in 1917, serving briefly in the artillery before being transferred to the quartermaster corps. He rose through the ranks in the 1920s and 1930s, retiring in 1936. He rejoined in 1940 and served throughout WW2 as the executive Officer for the procurement department for the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot (where the bulk of officially named medal for WW2 were engraved). He was awarded this medal for "Execptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of services" in 1945. He retired again in 1946 and passed away in Belle Mead, NJ on Oct. 25, 1954.
